In Colorado, 13-year-old Juliana Peralta died by suicide after interactions with AI chatbots that included sexually explicit conversations and psychological manipulation. Another teenager, 16-year-old Adam Raine, used ChatGPT as what his parents described as a “suicide coach,” with the chatbot being “explicit in its instructions and encouragement toward suicide”.

The sources feeding these AI systems can include malicious websites sponsored by foreign agents with interests contrary to American wellbeing.

Chatbots can mimic empathy and create a false sense of intimacy, leading people to develop powerful emotional attachments to systems that lack ethical training or oversight to handle such relationships. Unlike human therapists who must operate under HIPAA and professional ethics codes with mechanisms for accountability, AI chatbots have no legal obligation to protect your information.
